ReplyDeleteI think the activity was enjoyable, it was nice seeing everone else's favorite art.
I feel like recording myself was not very hard, although apparently I spoke way louder than I needed to.
Using the iPods was the easiest part of this activity.
1. Pink and Blue Music - Georgia O'Keefe
I liked this piece a lot, it looked like a surrealist flower. The flowing lines combined pink, blue, red, green, and violet.
2. The Scream - Edward Munch
Munch in this picture was able to take something simple, a screaming man on a bridge, and turn it into something amazing. His use of flowing lines shows the viewer the raw fear and demonic torment that Munch must himself bear.
3. American Gothic - Grant Wood
This piece has always been one of my favorites. The stoic look on the man's face and his wife's averted eyes really shows the grit and determination of the American farmer. In the background is a simple house, which shows that they try not to live in a manner more ostentacious than their neighbors, who probably live miles away.

ReplyDeleteI thought the activity was very original and thought it was a fun way to use school resources.
I didn't think recording myself was bad, i just think i did bad enough on the project and am selfconcious enough with my speaking skills to be worried about how i did.
It was quite interesting to use iPods like that. Using the iPods was a very accessible way to view the material.
1. The Promenade-Claude Monet
I liked this piece in the way that Monet plays with both realism and his own impressionism style. I thought it was engagingthe way the foreground is realistic while the background is impressionistic. Even if the subject of a woman and her son is not very exciting, the contrast brings the paintings to the forefront of my imagination.
2. The Sistine Chapel- Michelangelo
The Sistine Chapel has always been wonderful for me. I think the barrage of Genesis and religious iconography makes it truely a masterpiece in not only an artistic sense, but a cultural sense for the majesty of the Vatican that it displays.
3. Bust of Medusa- Bernini
I thought it was very interesting the way that Bernini gave the snake-haired gorgon human features. Historically, Medusa has been quite hideous, but, Bernini almost humanizes the ancient monster as a victim of fate. Medusa's sorrowful expression conveys that Bernini looked past superstition to examine the feelings of a person, even imaginary, so transformed nd vilified.

I feel that this activity was really unique and quite enjoyable. It was well worth the effort to see/hear the finished product.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the new opportunity to not only speak in spanish, but record myself doing so. It was extremely nerve-wracking because I felt it would be hard to understand if everything wasn't perfect. But, in this case, the pros outweigh the cons significantly.
Using the Ipods to listen to the presentations was extremely helpful. I felt I could focus better on the presentations and I could control the pace I went at. Also, the quality of the sound was great and not at all hard to hear.
1. A Friend in Need - Cassius Marcellus Coolidge
I really liked this painting because of the humor. There were small details, such as the dog in the front passing another dog a card with its paw under the table. The little details and the general idea made this painting extremely enjoyable. Also, the contrast between the darker corners of the painting and the light center brought certain aspects to life.
2. Blue Nude - Pablo Picasso
The fact that three colors and one figure could create such a moving painting if fascinating to me. This painting was fun to look at simply because of the brush strokes and outlines on very specific parts. It is a sad painting, but so fascinating you really can't look away.
3. The Sierra Nevada Valley - Albert Bierstadt
This painting is all about nature, and to me it was absolutely gorgeous. The details are superb and transfixing. There was a huge contrast between light and dark but it had a serene and happy mood to it. It seemed like many different techniques were used by the artist to achieve all of the aspects of the painting.

I thought that this activity is pretty fun for a spanish project thing. it was nice. I felt a little nervous at first I guess when I recorded myself but I guess it was good, thank you for asking. It was alright the iPod idea. Actually it was really smart Miss Todd. It was a nice idea.
ReplyDelete1. "A Friend In Need" by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge. It was a painting of dogs playing poker at a table. It's pretty famous. It is a.k.a. "Dog's playing Poker". That was mentioned in the recording. It was really colorful and pretty surrealistic because dogs can't play poker.
2. "The Scream" by Edvard Munch. This is a painting that's also pretty well known and it is of a woman in a black dress with her hands cupped over the sides of her face screaming. She looks very frighted and it has very "hot" colors like red, black, and yellow.
3. "Ram's Head White Hollyhock and Little Hills" by Georgia O'Keefe. This is a painting of a ram's head pretty much floating over some valleys of hills and it has a flower to the left of it and it looks like it might be set at a hispanic location, or atleast the colors make it seem so with yellow, pink, very vivid blue, white, brown, etc. It was pretty.... :):):)

I thought this activitiy was a great way to improve my Spanish speaking while also improving my comprehension. Recording myself, however, proved to be intimidating. Using the class iPods was a clever way to present our projects, as it allowed me to compare myself to other students who had the same artist and/or painting
ReplyDelete1- Transfiguration (Raphael). This painting uses the classic Renaissance style used by not only Raphael but da Vinci and Michelangelo as well. Raphael creates a contrast by using very bright primary colors while using dark colors in the shadows.
2- The Statue of Liberty, sculpted by Bartholdi. This statue, one of the iconic symbols of the United States was once a brown, but now has the distinctive green tint due to weathering. The statue was given to the United States by France in 1886.
3- Blue Nude, Picasso. I must include this painting because David did an awesome job in describing it. Very abstract, it uses a variety of blues, whites, and blacks to

This was an interesting and enjoyable alternative to the usual oral presentation style found in most foreign language classes. The iPods allow each student to work at his/her own pace and hear sections multiple times, if need be. For me, the recording was one of the most difficult parts of this assignment because I am not yet entirely confident in my pronunciation abilities.
ReplyDelete1. Train in the Snow - Claude Monet
This painting features impressionist elements and is neither entirely realistic nor entirely abstract. The scene of the falling snow on a peaceful winter night creates a tranquil, if not somber, mood.
2. La persistencia de la memoria - Salvador Dali
The dream-like appearance of this painting intrigues me, as do many of the surrealist paintings. There are a number of recognizable figures in the picture, yet not one of them seems to relate to the others in a logical manner. In the left foreground of the picture there are a few clocks which appear to be melting, almost as if time is slipping or melting away.
3. A Friend In Need - Cassius Coolidge
I find the personification of the seven dogs in this painting to be rather comical. The dogs are seated around a table and engaged in a game of poker, much like a group of people would do. The bright colors add to the lively, humerous tone of the painting.

Using the class iPods was a clever way to present our projects, as it allowed me to compare myself to other students who had the same artist and/or painting. ReplyDelete1- Transfiguration, by Raphael. This painting uses the classic Renaissance style used by not only Raphael but da Vinci and Michelangelo as well. Raphael creates a contrast by using bright primary colores that clash with the dark shadows. Miguel, your accent was trememdous, and I must applaud you for that.
2- The Statue of Liberty, designed by Bartholdi. This statue, one of the iconic symbols of the United States was once brown, but was turned to its current green color by the elements. The statue was given as a present to the U.S. by France in 1886.
3- Blue Nude, by Pablo Picasso. This painting was very abstract, but David did a great job in describing it. It uses a variety of cool blues, stark whites, and inky blacks to form the outline of a woman.

I actually thought this activity was fun. It changed things up from our regular rutine and we never get to do this kind of stuff in our other classes. The recording part was easy but if someone didn't speak clear enough you couldn't understand what they were saying. The iPods were a very cool addition to this activity and as you looked around people were actually concentrating instead of trying to goof off.
ReplyDelete1)The Sierra Nevada Valley por Albert Bierstadt
This picture was absolutely beautiful and full of detail. This picture consisted of a lot of detail within the sky alone. Not to meantion the mountains and all of its inhabitants.
2)The prominade por Monet
This picture consisted of a woman and her child standing beside her. You couldn't really make out their faces which made it have a mystical look as the grass swayed at their feet it all looked kind of "blurry".
3) The Bust of Medusa por Bernini
I love Bernini's works and could not even begin to fathom the amount of effort goes into all of his statues. I don't understand how an artist can make a statue so realistic as if the snakes off Medusa's head could strike you at any moment.
-Davis Kelton 6th period
I thought this activity was very helpful in helping me to improve my Spanish speaking skills. I was able to compare my Spanish speaking skills with my other peers, which was very interesting. This activity helped me to reflect on things that I need to work on, like emphasizing certain letters and accents. One of the hard parts of this activity is that most everyone talked at a fast pace so I kept having to start and stop the recordings to write down information. I am also very subconscious when it comes to hearing recordings of my voice, so I'm not so sure I enjoyed that part so much. I was also kind of nervous.
ReplyDeleteThe iPods were really cool and fun to use because they were easier to manage since I own one myself. I think it was a nice twist and it made Spanish class feel more "personal".
1. Blue Nude- Pablo Picasso
I really like this picture because it is simple but there is a lot of meaning behind it. I like the use of the cool colors like the blue and the black. It was interesting to see a change in Picasso's style, because he usually does more abstract art.
2. La persistencia de la memoria- Salvador Dali
This painting is one of my personal favorites because it is very surreal and it allows you to form your own meaning of the painting. I really like the melting clocks and the use of different lighting in the foreground and background. It's as if Dali was trying to portray different time zones or something. I almost chose this painting as my favorite art.
3. American Gothic- Grant Wood
This is a very interesting painting because it shows an American farmer couple standing in front of their house. I have seen so many alterations of this picture that it was really cool to see what the original looks like. I really like how Wood is able to capture the couple's stern emotions and their hardened faces.

The activity was lots of fun to participate in because the technology was new and it appealed to us as teenagers.
Recording myself was kind of interesting, especially hearing myself in my deep announcer voice later on. I'd certainly like to do it again in the future too.
Using the iPods made it a completely different environment in class, and it was fun to use them, and again I'd like to use them again in the future.
1. 'Blue Nude'-Pablo Picasso
Contrary to popular belief I don't just like this painting because of the nude part. No, actually I enjoyed Picasso's usage of the color blue throughout the painting and it added an interesting water-like touch to the whole work of art.
2. The Sierra Nevada Valley-Albert Bierstadt
It's impossible to find a more beautiful painting in the world. I almost don't even want to go to the Sierra Nevada's now because I'm afraid they won't be as beautiful as I saw in the painting.
3. 'Sistine Chapel'-Michelangelo
The sheer amount of work that Michelangelo put into this painting put it into the top three. Even though he didn't paint the whole thing on his back like everybody thinks, he still spent a good part of a decade working on it.
The activity was fun and I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteRecording myself was more difficult than I had imagine it would have been.
Using the iPods was awesome. If I had missed something I could go back and listen to it again.
1) Cattleya Orchid and Three Hummingbirds-Martin Johnson Heade
I really like the way his painting looks so real. The flowers and the hummingbirds were colorful and pretty.
2) Creation of the Sun, Moon, and Planets-Michelangelo
This painting shows God creating the world. In the background, there is the sun and the moon. There are angels around Him.
3) La Persistencia de la Memoria-Salvador Dali
This painting is very strange. There are four clocks and a strange animal on the sand. In the background are cliffs.

ReplyDeleteI thought this activity was really original and it turned out interesting and successful as well. I did descriptive writing in Spanish and learned about a famous Spanish artist (Picasso). The best part is that it got me more interested in art. It was strange to record myself speaking in Spanish because I wasn’t talking in the same fashion as I would in a typical conversation (when I listened to myself it sounded as if I was slightly speech impaired when all I was trying to do was narrate it distinctly so others could understand) but it was still rewarding to know that I could do it. It was fun using the iPods in class because we got to listen to our other classmates talk about their selection while we tried to understand it, and it wasn’t too tedious because their vocabularies are on-par with my own.
Three Paintings:
1- The Train In The Snow by Claude Monet was a beautiful painting that showed a train rolling along its tracks through a snowy night; it was one of the best winter paintings I’ve ever seen and seemed to resonate with a certain epic I watched – Dr. Zhivago.
2- The Sierra Nevada Valley by Albert Bierstadt was a fascinating depiction of the mountain landscape and its wildlife; it was like staring at a photograph – true mastery.
3- La Persistencia De Memoria by Salvador Dali was a captivating surrealist painting that showed time flying by us, as the clocks were represented as shriveled leaves of trees; it was one of my favorites of the surrealist paintings –truly original.

ReplyDeletethe activity was fun.Recording myself was ok,a little harder than i thought.
Using the ipods was a great, and aloud you to listen to the presentor more than once if yhou needed it.
1)The sierra Valley By Albert Bierstadt was fascinating deception of wildlife, mountains, and nature. It looked alot like a photo.
2)La Persistencia De Memoria was very interesting, it was abtract, but showed how the clocks represented time passing us by so fast. The cliffs in the background were cool too.
3)Blue Nude was very simple yet has hidden meaning to it. It was just a women, but the cool colors of blue and black gave it an edge. It was great seeing something different from Picasso, he usually does abstract painting

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this activity because for once we got to use ipods in class.
I wasn't that excited to record myself because my pronunciation is bad, but recording myself did help me to get used to having people hear my speak in another language.
Using ipods in class was really fun and I hope we get to do it again because it really makes me want to learn spanish.
1. The Scream by Edvard Munch had one man dressed in black clothes and colors that are very dark.
2. La Transfiguracion by Raphael has religious idols, especially Jesus Christ. The colors in the painting are very vivid, some are bright and some are dark.
3. Blue Nude by Pablo Picasso is very sad looking. In the foreground, there is a sad woman. To the left of the woman, the colors are very light and the colors to the right of the woman are very dark.

I thought this activity was a little interesting at first. It was a new experience so i did'nt quite know what to expect. With that said, however, I enjoyed it a lot. It was way better then sitting in class and it just gave some variety to the class.
I felt pretty strange recording myself. It felt like I was talking to myself which would be a little wierd. But when i heard it it sounded ok so i guess it was cool.
As i already said using the ipods was a lot better then just sitting in class. It is something I'm used to and it was kind of cool to hear my classmates on the recording.
I thought the panting called Blue Nude by Pablo Picasso was a little different. It was a wierd title as well as actual photo.
The painting called American Gothic by Grant Wood was cool to see because earlier this year we did something on it in english.
The painting by Salvador Dali called The Persistence of Memory was another painting I enjoyed. It was a different picture and very abstract kind of like me.
Can't wait for detention tomorrow!!!
I feel that this activity helped me become more culltured and that it was very interesting to learn about the different artists.
ReplyDeleteRecording myself in spanish was definitely not easy... but it was cool to hear myself speaking it.
Using iPods in class was a really cool experience and I hope I'm able to do it again one day.
1) Cattleya Orchid and Three Brazilian Humming Birds- Martin Johnson Heade
I like this painting because I like alot of paintings of nature...especially tropical settings. I also liked the colors used. They were bright and emphasized the birds and flowers, which were the main subjects of the paiting.
2) Starry Night- Vincent Van Gogh
I like this painting because I happen to be very fond of starry nights. :) In this painting Van Gogh portrayed it very well and used curvy lines and dark colors.
3) Mediterranean Landscape- Pablo Picasso
I like this painting because it makes me want to go wherever it is that the setting is at. I really love the beach and I like how the beach is set in the background. I also like how abstract it is and the usage of geometrical shapes and bright colors.

I thought this activity was a lot of fun. It was a lot different then just sitting in class. I went to a tech-magnet elementary school and I loved using technology in the classroom. Variation in teaching helps a lot, because sometimes I just get tired of the usual sitting in class and don't pay as much attention as I should. I was a little worried about the recording part, but once I got through it, I realized it wasn't so bad. It definitely helped my spanish pronounciations. Using the iPods made it more creative and I got a chance to listen to my classmates talk rather than only the teacher.
ReplyDeleteThree Favorite Works of Art:
1) Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh
I really liked the way the painting was abstract yet realistic. I also liked how, although most of the colors were dark, there were bits of yellow and beige that stood out.
2) Train in the Snow-Claude Monet
This painting is also realistic, but somewhat abstract. It makes me think of the winter in European countries. The train also reminds me of the Hogwarts Express from Harry Potter. :)
3)A Friend in Need- Cassius Coolidge
I thought this painting had a comedic twist; instead of humans playing cards, they were dogs. It reminds me of Animal Farm, in which the pigs have human characteristics.

I was afraid I'd mess up or pronounce something completely wrong.
Using the iPods in class was definitely a great experience. I enjoyed working with them.
Pink and Blue Music by Georgia O' Keefe
It was an abstract painting and it used many different colors like blue, pink, green, and violet.
Catteya Orchid and 3 Brazilian Humming Birds by Johnson Heade
It used very bright colors and showed a Brazilian landscape with humming birds and a a very tropical setting.
Autumn On the Hudson by Jasper Cropsey
This was a very gorgeous painting that showed the Hudson River. It also showed the landscape and view of the river. The painting had really pretty shades of blues, greens, and reds.

1) I thought this activity was pretty interesting. I liked looking at all of the different pieces of art. It was also kind of funny and interesting to here all the people in our classes speaking in Spanish on a voice recording. The only complaint was that the recordings tended to be a little boring after a little while. They were a little too long.
ReplyDelete2)I really enjoyed recording myself in Spanish. It is always fun to here yourself speak. I also love speaking Spanish its just that I don't always understand it haha!
3)It was kind of weird cause it seemed like everybody was in there own world. But I still thought it was cool to be on an Ipod. I feel famous! When I first heard about this project I pictured us standing in front of a piece of art and all of us listening to a recording about it. Kind of like in a museum. This was still fun though.
a. La Guernika by Pablo Picasso- This was an abstract painting that would seem completely random at first but really is very symbolic. I thought it was very deep.
b. El Cafe de la Noche by Vincent van Gogh- This was a beautiful painting of a bright cafe at night. It looked like it made for very exciting nightlife in whatever city it was repesenting. I just liked it for its beauty
c. Harriet Tubman's Underground Railroad by Paul Collins- This is a picture of Harriet Tubman leading a group of slaves down her underground railroad. It is a very realistic painting. I like it not so much for its beauty but the symbol for blacks that it stands for. It is a really moving picture.
This was a great way to get away from the everyday activities for a little while.

ReplyDelete1- I enjoyed seeing all of the different types of art chosen by my classmates. It was something different from the norm and wasn't boring at all.
2- i felt cheesey recording myself in spanish because even though i was speaking spanish i still sounded American. It just amused me hearing my own voice played back to me.
3- Using the ipods made me feel high-tech. Although it was weird using any sort of technology in your class.
The Statue of Liberty- Bartholdi
This was a picture just straight up of the statue of liberty. It sent a patriotic chill down my spine seeing this.
American Gothic- Grant Wood
This was a picture of an "old timey" farming couple in America, probably somewhere in the midwest.
The Sierra Nevada Valley- Albert Bierstadt
This was an amazing painting. It included: mountains, wateralls, a lake, and deer drinking from the lake. It was extremely beautiful
I thought it was good activity. It was different but was still an interesting and educational experience.
ReplyDeleteRecording myself wasn't bad I was a little worried at first but then I remembered I'm a perfect person who never makes mistakes.
Using ipods to listen to others cool. It was good for everyone to see that they weren't the only ones to make mistakes
Mediterranean Landscape by Pablo Picasso was cool. It was abstract with cubism features. It used crazy shapes
Pink and Blue Music by Georgia O'Keefe was pretty dank. It had some bright colors in some trippy abstract way.
Starry Night by Vincent Van Gough was the coolest but only because I chose it and anything I do is automatically cool. It is a blend of abstract and realistic elements nad uses dark colors.

3-I thought it was really cool and unique using ipods to listen to presentations. It was a lot easier to record information because if we missed something we could just re-wind it.
Primavera- Sandro Botticelli
This was a painting of the spring time and all of the flowers blooming. This was a very realistic and natural picture, i thought it was really pretty.
Impression, Sunrise- Claude Monet
I thought this picture was really pretty. It was a picture of a boat in the water with a lot bright colors.
A Friend In Need- Cassius Marcellus Codidge
This picture was so cute. It was very different because it had dogs playng poker instead of humans.

I thought this activity was OK. I can't really call a project in another language fun, but it wasn't the worst project we could've been assigned.
ReplyDeleteIt was a little weird recording my voice for the project. It's weird using the recorder, because you can see that the computer receives audio input when you use GarageBand.
Using the iPods and listening to our other classmate's presentations without the trial-by-fire method of standing in front of the class and presenting was the most enjoyable part of the process.
1. School at Athens, by Raphael. This is probably my favorite painting by a Renaissance artist. I like the colors and attention to detail in the painting.
2. The Scream, by Edvard Munch. This is one of those paintings that you recognize without knowing the title of, which you can guess for yourself. Last night, I read about that painting in a totally unrelated book, and thought about what is expressed by the person screaming on the dock. The dark primary colors were nice, too.
3. The Sierra Nevada Valley, by Albert Bierstadt. It was one of the best landscapes I've seen in a painting, and captures the beauty and majesty of the Sierra Nevadas. The detail in the painting was impressive, but not overwhelming to gaze upon.

I believe this activity was a great experience because it gave everyone a chance to reflect on art and the different artists.I felt overwhelmed recording myself initially, but to my surprise it was not as bad as I thought.I thought it was great using ipods in class because it was much more convenient than everyone giving there presentations in front of the class one by one.I viewed "Bust of Medusa",by Lorenzo Bernini, the work of art was a head with snakes on it, I viewed "Blue Nude",by David Pudlo, the work of art contained a mixture of different types of blue and a nude woman, and I viewed "The sierra nevada valley" by Albert Bierstadt, and it was a very bright sierra valley.

-The activity was very interactive and insightful; it was structured but I felt like there were still a lot of opportunities for me to be creative.
-The actual recording wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, the sound quality on the ipods is really good and I enjoyed hearing how my voice really sounds like.
-The ipods were pretty revolutionary as far as anything else I’ve done in school, using them was easy and fun.
1. The Sierra Nevada Valley by Albert Bierstadt: this piece is an amazing work of art showing the Sierra Nevada with the sun peaking behind the clouds in life-like detail.
2. The Wanderer by Casper David Friedrich:
Erie painting showing a man reflecting atop a mountain looking into a sea of fog
3. School of Athens by Raphael: Depicts the great ancient thinkers of Greece and Rome huddles in the School of Athens, in the center is Socrates.
-I though the activity was fun. It was very interesting because we got to look at some really cool art, and learn Spanish along with it.:)

-The other painting was Girl with a Bee Dress by Maggie Taylor I liked that particular painting because it was very different from the others and the colors were very nice
-I also liked the painting A Friend In Need by Coolidge it was one of my favorites because it was very funny and unrealistic.

ReplyDeleteAt first, i thought this activity was going to be a big waste of time. By the time I finished my recording and heard other people, my whole perspective changed. As I recorded myself it felt like I was taking audio notes on a crime scene investigation. It was interesting to learn something in class that we, as students, could make a connection and better understanding with. Listening from the iPOD's was more fun than the usual boring lectures.
1. The Statue of Liberty
I didn't expect anyone to choose this as their favorite work of art, but it did make alot of sense. Bartholdi was inspired to create this giant art after the Civil War. It's suppose to STAND FOR LIBERTY.
2. A Cattleya Orchid and Three Hummingbirds
The title says it all for this one. It's a painting of an orchid surrounded by three flying hummingbirds and was made by Martin Johnson Heade.
3. Untitled
This picture was very abstract and hard to depict the overall theme. I guess the black figure in the middle is a human with angels coming out of its' stomach. The work of art was created by Keith Haring.

ReplyDelete1.I thought this activity was fun and interesting because we got to learn about our classmates' favorite paintings.
2.Recording myself in spanish was something new I had experienced and I was kind of worried about not pronouncing the words correctly, but i did the best I could do so my classmates could comprehend what I was saying.
3.I thought listening to the Ipods for the presentation was creative because I've never done that in any of my classes before. It was also fascinating to me because it really felt like i was in a art museum where there's a speaker box and the speaker tells about the artwork and artist.
4. The Kiss by Gustav Klimt:Captured two people in love. The picture was filled with flowers.
Help Me by Alec Tudor:It was a picture of a girl reaching out for help on the window. The picture depicted darkness and lonely.
La Gurenika by Pablo Picasso:The picture was very abstract and it had alot of dead young men.
I thoroughly enjoyed this activity and was interested in my classmate’s choice of artwork. This activity assisted my comprehension of Spanish greatly and proved to be interesting as well.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit apprehensive about recording myself in Spanish and was worried concerning the time limit, but the actual recording was not as difficult to execute as I expected.
I felt that the utilization of iPods was beneficial to the comprehension of the content, and also added an interesting, fun element to the activity.
Three Works of Art
1. “The Sierra Nevada Valley” by Albert Bierstadt is a beautiful, realistic painting of a mountainous landscape with a variety of colors depicting various gorgeous natural elements. Bierstadt’s appropriate utilization of colors that mimicked nature was stunning.
2. “Girl with a Bee Dress” by Maggie Taylor is a conceptually fascinating piece of art. The muted colors of the painting emphasized the beautiful oddity of the dress and the facial expression of the girl.
3. “Impression, Sunrise” by Claude Monet is a beautiful, abstract work of art with a perfect amalgam of colors that accurately represent the beauty of a sunrise.

ReplyDelete-I actually liked recording more than I thought. I was still a little nervous about messing up as usual, but I wasn't as nervous as I would have been if I had to go up in front of the class.
-I liked the using iPods because it lets us listen to the presentation at our own pace, like if we needed to hear something repeated and it's a not as noisy compared to other presentations.
The works:
1. "The Girl With the Bee Dress" by Maggie Taylor. It is a Surreal painting of a woman holding a flower covered in a dress of bees. This is probably my favorite because each thing in the painting had a purpose. Although only the artist will know what the purpose is, it allows us, the viewers, to interpret it however we like.
2. "Cattleya Orchid and 3 Brazillian Hummingbirds" by Martin Johnson Heade. This is a very beautiful picture of a tropical orchid in the jungle with 3 hummingbirds in the background.
3. "Self-Portrait" by Frida Khalo. It is a portait of Khalo that she has done. I like the fact that she was brave enough to exaggurate her flaws in her portraits. If anything, I'd do the opposite.

I thought that this activity was different and original.I don't mind learning this way. Plus we learned both about art and Spanish, which I thought was really cool.
ReplyDeleteI thought that recording myself speaking Spanish was kind of exciting since it was new and I had never done that before, but I also felt nervous since I knew that other people would be listening to my recording.
I liked using the Ipods in class because it's contemporary and familiar to me. I also enjoyed it because we got to be taught by our classmates and this way it took a lot less time that presentations would have.
1. "The Scream" by Edvard Munch - The abstract picture showed a man screaming, two others standing behind him, and a sky which was red, just like blood. It portrayed the artist's feeling of wanting to scream. Munch was born in Norway and did not have a happy childhood.
2. "Moi Krai Rodnoi" by Viktor Pokhomov - This piece of art depicted the Russian country side and showed a house by the lake and mountains in the background. The artist depicted his homeland in this painting. Pokhomov grew up in a poor family of 7 in Russia.
3. "Cat in the Kitchen Bottling Fruit" by Dianne Connolly - This artwork portrayed a cat in the kitchen as he was bottling fruit. It used bright colors, but the expression on the cat's face was sad. Connolly was inspired by the abstract works of Franz Mark.

I thought that this activity was really fun, because it was free to visit this museum and how everybody can express what kind of art they like individually.
I thought it was really wierd recording myself because when I listened to it on the ipod, my voice sounded a lot deeper than it originally is.
I thought that the Ipods were a great Idea because that is he only type of music device that I can work properly and it was a lot faster to get through all of the presentations.
1."Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh because it used a lot of dark colors in which i perfer and how it represented how night should look like was really interesting.
2."Sistine Chapel" by Michaelangelo has always been an interisting to me because it;s uniqueness and how it was painted. Also, I like the dedication he put on it because it took about a decade to do.
3." The Scream" by Edward Munch is a very abstract and interesting painting to me because it's a man screaming and i never knew what he was screaming about which made it the interesting part. Also, the colors used were a good choice to use for this type of painting.
I thought this was a very fun activity, for Spanish. It was a good project that was easier to present through the recordings and it also helped tie something more interesting to a subject I usually find boring. It was an original way to improve our Spanish and it helped me with preterit and imperfect.
ReplyDelete1.Starry Night by Van Gogh- I thought this was a cool painting because the city was painted realistically but the sky was very abstract with swirls of yellow, which I believe to be representing the wonder of the night sky.
2.Mediterranean Landscape by Pablo Picasso- I really liked this painting because it was very lighthearted with its bright colors. It was a nice house on the sea with a sail boat in the water behind it.
3.Red Canna by Georgia O'Keefe- This was a very abstract painting with bright colors such as pink, yellow and orange. It reminded me of a flower.

ReplyDeleteI thought this particular activity was interesting. I would normally prefer to go to an art musem because hearing myself speak in spanish sounds awful quite personally. I am not much of the speaker when it comes to recording myself anyway. But overall seeing what types of art there were seemed to console me to the point of seeing other works of art that I haven't seen before, it was sort of like a new adventure, only in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe iPods were a pretty good idea because it was as if you were in a real musem as if someone were guiding you through the many different works of art and telling you something about the artist, but really letting you decide on if you like it or not.
My three favorite were:
1. "The School of Athens" by: Raphael
- This was and will always be one of my favorites because it's brightly colored and the artist paints all these great thinkers (i.g. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle) and even puts himself (literally) in the painting as if he were one of the great minds himself!
2. "The Bust of Medusa" By: Bernini
- I enjoyed learning about this one because it shows you of how real Greek mythology was, and still is, in some places today. This particular piece was a sculpture that depicted Medusa as having snakes for hair, which secretly, I think would be pretty awsome!
3. "Starry Night" By: Van Gogh
-Vincent Van Gogh himself is an interesting story all by himself, and with his art combined it creates a sort of allusion as to how his artwork ties into his life. This one may not say much about his life, but it says something about what he likes, as most of his paintings do. I like this one because it is based upon the nighttime and what it looks like with all the stars shining. It is so beautiful that I often wonder what it would be like to actually see something like that!

ReplyDeleteI really liked the activity. I kind of felt like I had taken A trip to the museum. At first it was nerve racking having to record yourself, but once you got started it wasn't that hard. It was fun to hear to her the other Spanish three students because you could hear different interpretations on how they spoke. The I-pod gave us the freedom that A real museum would have, so it was pleasing to me
1)The Ecstasy of St. Theresa,by Gian Lorenzo Bernini- This sculpture is the apitomy of Baroque art. The Clothing on the angel and Theresa simply drap their bodies as if to be made out of real clothing. Through the realistic clothing you can see movement through the sculpture. Bernini was a genius of his time.
2)Blue Nude,by Pablo Picasso- Picasso used a simple color palete but emociones poured out of the painting to me. It looked like the painting had a dark secret and it wanted you to find out what it was. It's very peculiar but in a good way.
3)Help Me,by Alex Tudor- This photo looked like something out of a horror moive, but it wasn't weird. The photo for me expressed a different range of feelings like anger, pain, sadness and even a little begging sense of quality. I also like how the photo is in black and white.
1) I thought that it was a creative activity that helped us as students to get practice speaking and writing the Spanish language.
ReplyDelete2) I was a little nervous to record myself because I knew that my peers would be listening and so that made it a little intimidating.
3) I enjoyed using the iPod in class because it was something different than the everyday book activities and we were still working, not just playing around.
4)Starry Nighgt por Van Gogh is a beautiful work of art. The painting uses dark colors, enhancing its effectiveness. In it is a chuch and community.
The Kiss por gustav Klimt is a painting that really makes you use your imagination beacuse the faces and hands are the only things visible, the rest is a blur up to you to interpret.
Girl With a Bee Dress por Maggie Taylor cuaght my interest bacause most people wouldn't enjoy being surrouded a lots of bees. It had to take so much time and patience to paint each bee. There was also a pint rose in it which was interesting, but pretty.

I thought this activity was very enjoyable and something new. It was a great way to incorporate technology into the learning environment.
ReplyDeleteI thought recording myself in Spanish was easily done, but a little nerve- wracking for fear that I might mess up or sound funny during the play back.
My favorite part of the project was listening to the ipod because I liked being able to go at my own pace and rewind in case I needed something repeated.
1. Blue Nude- Pablo Picasso
The colors and cold tone of this painting was my favorite part because Picasso was able to create such a meaningful picture with only three colors and the women holding a child had a lot of sentimental value.
2. The Walk, Women with a Parasol-claude Monte
This painting is extremely interesting because it is abstract but contains realistic features. The women and the boy are painted with fine strokes using beautiful colors in a lively field that is appealing to the eye.
3.The Scream- Edvard Munch
This painting contains a wide variety of bright reds and oranges in the top mixed in with blues and browns at the bottom. In the abstract painting the viewer can make out a strange figure screaming and I think that adds a tone of mystery to the picture.

I thought that this activity was very interesting. I enjoyed mixing up our daily routine and I thought this was a great way to practice more Spanish.
ReplyDeleteI felt that recording myself speaking in Spanish was very effective. I got to hear how I pronounced all of my words and I can make corrections now on where I was incorrect.
I felt that using iPods to listen to the presentations was a great idea. This way, everyone could go at their own pace for listening to the presentations. We could rewind to exactly the part we needed to hear again. In my opinion, it is much easier listening to classmates speaking than listening to the computer voice speaking.
1. “The Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci. This is a fascinating picture. It contains many dark colors. This is an argument on what this picture actually is of. Some say that it is of the Virgin Mary. Others say that it is a self-portrait of da Vinci himself.
2. “The Transfiguracion” by Raphael. This picture is of the Ascension of Jesus Christ. It is a mural painted on the ceiling and walls in Italy. Raphael is also from Italy.
3. “A friend in Need” by Cassius Coolidge. This is one of the few paintings that we looked that was done by an American painter. It is a picture that is of dogs playing cards, sitting around a table. I really like this painting.
Cesar L.
I really liked the I-pod activity. Recording myself was a good opportunity for me to hear myself and realize what I need to improve on. The I-pod made it easier to listen to people speak because if I didn't understand something I could rewind it and listen again. My 3 favorite arts were;
ReplyDelete1-Red Canna by Georgia O'Keefe, the art has a warm vibe
2-La Persistencia de la manera by Keith Haring, this art had several clocks. I think the clocks meant that time isn't garaunteed.
3-Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, This art has a very calm yet vibrant feeling.

I thought that this activity was the most interesting thing we've done all year. I felt that recording myself will enhance my Spanish speaking abilities. The Ipods were very helpful in listening to the presentations because, I am able to listen to it over again, if I didn't catch it the first time.
ReplyDelete1. Blue Nude, by Pablo Picasso: This piece was one of my favorite because, it is very emotional and Picasso must have put alot of thought into it.
2. Help Me, by Alex Tudor: I liked this image alot because its sort of creepy, but not a bad creepy. This was one of the few artwork that I actually remembered without having to look at my chart.
3. Pink and Blue Music, by Georgia O'Keefe: I really liked the way she mixed the colors together to create a beautiful painting.

I feel that recording myself speaking spanish was quite interesting, though the paper we had to right may not have been worth it. Though, recording myself did help me learn some more spanish vocab plus i got much better at pronouncing the words. While I still don't understand how we could afford to use ipods when we cant even use the printer all the time, I still think it was very helpful to the activity and much better than just haveing the person stand up in front of the class and present.
ReplyDelete1. pink and blue music, georgia O'keefe
i thought that this painting used a very good mix of colors to show the point of the picture, as abstract as it was.
2. Starry Night, Van Gogh: This very famous picture still was nice to look at because it had a calming feel to it, and used a very nice blend of colors
3. The scream by edvard munch: This picture is also extremly famous, though every time i look at it still has a chilling effect to me because of the emotion portrayed in it, and the vibrant colors that the author used.

I thought the activity was very interesting and it was different compared to any project that I'd ever done before in spanish class. The recording part was the most interesting part about this project and I liked it a lot. The fact that we used ipods made the project even better, because it was a fun twist to something that would normally not be so fun.
ReplyDelete1."Gotas da Agua Numero Cuatro" by Bruce Gray-there were many bright colors and shapes
2."Mediterranean Landscape" By Pablo Picasso- this was a picture of the landscape, which was very abstact, with bright colors.
3."A Self Portait" by Frida Kahlo-this was a self portait of Frida Kahlo, where she had another face on hers and the infamous unibrow.

I think that this activity was very interesting. No assignment is usually done using the very items that are banned during school hours. The recording was not very hard for me. I was trying to speak slowly but did not want to be too long, which was the only problem I had. Using the iPods was fun. It's better than having to wait while people struggle in class to make their presentations. And when we were done we could jus go on to the next one, instead of only listening to a few people all class period.
ReplyDelete1) Help Me by Alex Tudor: This photograph stood out to me because it was the only thing that was actually not painted. The way the woman is depicted through the glass shows how trapped she feels.
2) Pink and Blue Music by Georgia O'Keefe: This painting impressed me because there were very few colors used but, it was an impressive painting. The mixing of the colors makes a very nice and light painting.
3) Moi Krai Rodnoi by Viktor Pokhomov: This very gorgeous painting of a cabin with the landscape around it impressed me. I loved how realistic and desiring it looked. I would be grateful to actually experience a surrounding like that.
Christina P.
So far this activity has benn the most exciting thing we have this year. I really enjoyed the iPods, which allowed me to stop the track if I needed to relisten to something.
ReplyDelete1.Transfiguration, by Raphael: This painting is painted with dark colors and depicts Jesus Christ.
2.Primavera, by Sandra Botticelli: This is a painting of Madona during the Rebaissance.
3.A Friend In Need, by Cassius Marcellus Coolidge: This painting is a fantasy of dogs playing poker at a table.

ReplyDeleteI think the activity was a fun and unique way to look at the artwork using Ipods
I felt I didn't do well with the speaking because I'm not good at my pronunciations and my essay was long.
I think it was a great idea to use the Ipods for the art project because it was a great way to listen to the people presenting and you could hear them loud and clear.
1."La persistencia de la Merrora" by Salvidor Dali
The painting is surrealistic and most of the odjects are clocks.
2."American Gothic" by Grant Wood
The painting is very realistic and the images of the farmer and his wife look almost life like.
3."Stary Night" by Vicent Van Gogh.
The painting is very gloomy and there are only 8 colors used and are primerely shades of blue which brings out the stary effect to it.
Santiago Rahn- I Rahn
ReplyDeleteI found this activity was very different and exciting. Most classes we do the same basic things everyday which becomes boring after a while. Activities such as this add to the diversity of learning aspects and makes class much more enjoyable. I was nervous recording myself, but this is a great expirience since it teaches me to read without mistakes. I thought it was cool using ipods for the presentation because we could pick which work of art to look at, which made the activity much more individual.
1- "La persistencia de la memora por salvador represented that time had no meaning. In the back ground there were mountains and in frond there was a dead tree. Salvador Dali was an Abrtract painter.
2- The statue of liberty by Bartholdi symbols the work of America and France. This statue now is green and is a queen figure holding a torch.
3- "Untitled" By Keith Haring is an abrtract painting with a person running in the background. In the foreground there is a man with things comming out of his stomach. The artist was born may 1958.

ReplyDeleteI thought this activity was very helpful in teaching how to pronounce words in spanish. It also helped with improving my spanish writing skills. Recording myself speaking in spanish felt extremely awkward. Having to pronounce the dates was the most difficult part. Using the ipods in class to listen to the presentations was fun and helped me to better pay attention to the projects.
Sistine Chapel- Michelangelo
The sistine chapel was one of my favorite woks i saw during this activity. It is many paintings combined into one and starts with the creation of man and ends with Jesus.
Help Me- Alex Tudor
This picture was very creative and also very interesting. The picture uses dark colors, mainly black and white. The lady behind the glass is Alex's mom.
American Gothic- Grant Wood.
This painting is a realistic painting. on the left there is a women and on the right there is a man with a pitch fork. In the background there is a house.
I thought that this activity was a great way to learn about art. At first I didn't know how recording myself was going to go but I thought I did good. Using the Ipods in class was very helpful in understanding what the students were saying.
ReplyDeleteBlue Nude-Pablo Picasso
This painting was very striking to me because the only color was blue except for the black outlines of the woman.
The Sistine Chapel-Michaelangelo
This mural has always been one of my favorite works because of how detailed it is and how long it took for Michaelangelo to paint it.
Untitled-Keith Haring
I liked this drawing because it looked almost like something I could draw, but then there were features about it that I knew I could never replicate.
I thought that this activity was interesting and hands-on.It helped me learn about new art and listening to other people speak Spanish helps with the listening part of spanish. Using the ipods was a great way of hearing other people and interpreting what you heard versus listening as a class.
ReplyDelete- Blue Nude by Pablo Picasso
I like this piece of art because it had my favorite colors and it showed some emotion. It was also abstract. I like abstract works of art because they are different.
-Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol
I like this piece of art because it's a fmous piece of art. it also shows the beuaty Marilyn monroe had when she was youngewr.
-Starry Night by Van Gogh
I like this piece of art because it's also famouse. I like the way the Artist did the stars, they're aren't the way stars are normally drawn ore painted.
Diego D.
I thought this activity was really original and it turned out interesting and successful as well.
ReplyDeleteThree Paintings:

ReplyDeleteI thought this activity was very interesting and a unique idea.
I felt fine recording myself in Spanish although we all sounded funny on the recordings. It was a little difficult to understand certain people because they either went to fast or just were not understandable. Then some people had way too much information and you had to listen to a bunch of useless stuff before you got to anything worth while but there were only a few of these.
1. Music, Pink and Blue. Georgia O'Keefe. In this painting, O’Keefe has painted what appears to be a flower very close up. It is a very close up of the flower and there are a mixture of colors. This is one of my favorites of the pictures selected.
2. Primavera. Sandro Botticelli. This is a very realistic painting of several women, who could be like fairies or something, in a forest and there is a prince. All of the people are bright while the trees in the background are dark. This one stands out to me because it feels like there is a story behind this painting and I do not remember who but the recording for this one was very good.
3. Statue of Liberty. Frederic Bartholdi. It is the statue of liberty. Do I really need to describe it? This piece stood out to me because before now, I had not thought of the Statue as a work of art but it is.
1. I Thought the activity was new and different. I enjoyed it alot.
ReplyDelete2. Recording myself in spanish felt realy awkword because i culdn't hear myself.
3.The I-pods were the BEST part!!! that was the coolest because i've never used an i-pod for a project, let alone being allowed to use it in class lol(laughing out loud).
4&5. My three favorite were, Impression Sunrise by: Claude Monet it was painting of an abstract sunrise with pretty shades of pink, orange, red, and yellow.
The second one is, Cambell's Soup by: Andy Warhol i'm a huge Andy Warhol fan to begin with, but he did a still life of a campbell soup can, very realistic, he got every detail.
My third is Girl With Bee Dress by:Maggie Taylor, it is almost a firytale type drawing using loose lines, the girl represents the flower and she has a flower and her hair, bees surround her and lay on her as a dress.
--Mia C.--
I thought this activity was a really fun and creative way to use Spanish in a form different from textbook activities.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I felt really nervous when I recorded myself speaking Spanish. I felt like I mispronounced some things that I had written down correctly on my paper, but I think that this type of activity will help improve pronouncing Spanish tremendously.
I thought using the iPods was unbelievable - again, refer back to my technological unsavviness. Instinctively, every time I saw Senora, I had the urge to hide it under my desk. It's amazing how much technology is being incorporated into the classroom more and more. This is the future!!
1. Blue Nude - Pablo Picasso
I really liked this piece because I think the style is different from a lot of other works by Picasso (such as Guernica). It's still abstract, but in a different fashion. I love how the woman's position reflects the blue atmosphere of the background.
2. The Train in the Snow - Claude Monet
I also really liked this piece because although it's a definite image, the way that it's drawn makes it abstract. All of the lines and strokes are fuzzy, for lack of a better word, and the colors are very calm and tranquil and sad.
3. The Persistence of Memory - Salvador Dali
This is one of my favorite pieces of all time. So much that I have a poster of it hanging in my room! I think that the melting clocks creates a notion that, in the scheme of things, time has no importance. And that's a comfort to us all, isn't it?

ReplyDeleteFor those of you who posted on time, GREAT job! I really loved reading your opinions as well as what you learned from this activity! :)
I thought the activity was interesting because we got to get up and look at all of the artwork and listen to the recordings like in a real museum. I liked recoding myself and I think it was fun. I enjoyed using iPods because you could go to each artwork and work at your own pace and if iyou missed something you could just go back and pause it. I saw 1)Cattleya Orchid & Three Hummingbirds by Martin Johnson Heade. That piece of artwork was very colorful, realistic, and serene. I saw 2) Blue Nude by Pablo Picasso and it was a painting kind of depressing and sad because it was blue and the lady in the middle looked as if she were sheltering someone while she was naked. I also saw 3) The Kiss by Gustav Klimt and it was romanti with only the faces, hands, and feet of the people showing.
